GeoNote One
This app is used to record field observations. It automatically sends
short or verbally-entered notes with GPS coordinates to a pre-set home
email.
IMPORTANT: You must set your own email one time
(ever)
before this app will
work. If you haven't set your email, the app will crash when you
send a GeoNote.
Received emails have a link to Google Maps with an icon marking the
location from which the note was sent.
The messages must be short (<144 characters). It is intended that the
voice
input feature be used. This requires clicking the microphone button on the
lower row of the virtual keyboard, then speaking a phrase into the phone,
which is then automatically translated into text.
The email is only set once
after
the app is first installed. It can be changed later, but does not need
to be reset, except for the first time the app is used. After that, the
email is
then stored in the
phone's memory.
This makes sending the GeoNote simple
by avoiding opening your Gmail account. The downside is the restriction
on message length.
You can verify the email setting after you have finished entering it by
pressing the lower button on the SetUp page.
Before the GPS will work, the Location setting must be set to Satellite.
It may take a couple of
minutes till the satellite connection is established properly and you must
wait for this after you first turn it on. You leave it set to On while you
are using the app, so this delay is not repeated.
Myself I switch
on the
Satellite Location when I first set out.
The Satellite Location setting should be turned off after
you are finished using the app, unless you choose to leave it on for other
reasons.
