Luc Comeau is a research scientist at the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans. His research on sustainable shellfish aquaculture focuses on the interactions between bivalve farming and the environment, primarily within the coastal embayments of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. His field projects generate massive datasets on water quality and the health of cultured bivalves. Examples include high-resolution time-series detailing the valve gaping behaviour of sentinel mussels and oysters, which in turn provide insight into the animals’ sensitivities to stressors such as eutrophication and harmful microalgae. Luc has co-authored 64 journal articles and 27 technical reports in collaboration with academia, graduate students, post docs, and other government scientists on regional, national, and international scales.
