Introduction to HCI

From Johnson, P. (1992) "Human Computer Interaction: Psychology, Task Analysis and Software Engineering"

"Human-computer interaction (HCI) is the study of the interaction between people, computers and tasks. It is principally concerned with understanding how people and computers can interactively carry out tasks, and how such interactive systems are designed."

HCI a multidisciplinary subject:

Science,
Engineering,
Graphic Design

People and tasks:

(The interface more than what a user can see, touch and hear)

HCI is concerned with user's:

knowledge;
understanding;
problem solving;
learning

The computer changes the tasks that can people can do.
(Task-design-task life cycle)
