Representation is important!

Menus/Icons alleviate:

- User recall of appropriate command
- Accurate typing

Immediate visual display of system state:

- Reduces mode errors
- Cursor icon changes according to tool type or interaction context
- Modal dialogues constrains user to attend to a task
