These instructions are for short papers only.
Instructions for full paper authors are here.

Dear Accepted Author

Thank you for participating in the HT '02 (ACM sigWeb 2002 Conference on Hypertext and Hypermedia) Proceedings. This webpage will acquaint you with the submission of your poster, demo, or tutorial, the required fields, how and where to submit your signed ACM Permission Release Form, and how and where to submit any reviewed external materials.

Please read this entire webpage. Submissions that do not conform to the ACM standards and formats will be returned to the author for corrections or alterations.

Submission Deadlines and Preparation of Copy

All ACM sponsored proceedings will be included in the ACM digital library as well as prepared for printed publication. All papers for the conference must be submitted in an electronic format which conforms to ACM specifications. There is a 2-page maximum on your poster, demo, or tutorial descriptions.

(Instructions for full and short paper authors are here.)

Your electronic submission is due on or before April 19, 2002.

Templates for you to prepare your article (using LaTeX, Word, or FrameMaker) are available from the ACM. You can get the templates from http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html. Important details about how to use those templates are in the templates section below.

Note To All Authors

The following sections in all of the ACM templates are mandatory sections and should be filled in properly by the authors:

Categories & Subject Descriptors:
Use the ACM Computing Classification Scheme.
General Terms:
This section is limited to the following 16 terms: Algorithms, Management, Measurement, Documentation, Performance, Design, Economics, Reliability, Experimentation, Security, Human Factors, Standardization, Languages, Theory, Legal Aspects, Verification.
Keywords:
This section is your choice of terms you would like your article to be indexed under.

Formatting Directions

We need your original source file (.doc, .fm or .tex), so we can extract text and data to produce information and metadata for ACM's digital library.

LaTeX users may also submit high-quality PDF files (generated with pdflatex) or Postscript but still need the original source file.

FrameMaker users must submit both Postscript and original source files.

Be sure that your .ps file is formatted for American Letter (8.5×11 inches).

Submissions that do not conform to the ACM standards and formats will be returned to the author for corrections or alterations.

All authors must submit a signed ACM Permission Release Form. If you cited external material (such as a QuickTime video or Flash presentation) in your submission then that material should be submitted by FTP too.

Check that you have no widowed or orphaned lines (i.e., the last line of paragraphs should not be at the top of a column or a new page). If you do then either tighten the previous column or force a line over.

Section and Sub-section heads should remain with at least two lines of body text when near the end of a page or column.

Templates

Templates are available for the following three programs that you may use to prepare your submission for the proceedings.

  1. Word
  2. LaTeX
  3. FrameMaker

  1. Details for Word Users

    1. Please download the template from the ACM website: http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html.
    2. Name your .doc file using your HT paper number and the lead author's last name (for example: p123-smith.doc). Be sure to format your document for American Letter (8.5×11 inches).
    3. Insert the ACM permission statement:
      1. Download HT02-permission.doc (by right-clicking)
      2. Cut-and-paste it into your submission
      3. This statement should appear in 8 pt. Times New Roman, justified text, with HT'02 italicized.
      4. See this PDF as an example.
    4. You need to submit to Sheridan Printing, your .doc file as an e-mail attachment (you may also include a PDF file) on or before April 19, 2002.
    5. You must also submit a signed ACM Permission Release Form. (See the Copyright Permission Release section below.)
    6. If you cited external material in your submission then that material should be submitted by FTP too. (See the External Materials section below.)
  2. Details for LaTeX Users

LaTeX users may submit either high-quality PDF files (generated with pdflatex), Postscript files, or both. You must use the ACM's option#2--sig-release class file (sig-alt-full.cls).

    1. Get the sig-alt-full.cls class file from this link (or from the ACM SIG proceedings templates webpage.) That class file saves sigWeb money and automatically includes the ACM permission statement and conference information.
    2. Insert the following three lines into your .tex document after the \begin{document} to produce the correct permission statement and information:
      • \conferenceinfo{HT'02,}{June 11-15, 2002, College Park, Maryland, USA.}
      • \CopyrightYear{2002}
      • \crdata{1-58113-477-0/02/0006}
    3. You must use Type 1 fonts.
For help see: http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/sigfaq.htm#a14. If you still have difficulty check with your system administrator.
    4. Please include all text (including references from the .bbl file) into one complete .tex document.

We want only one file with all of your text from your submission, not a directory of files. We do not need the figures. We are not recompiling your submission, only using the one source file to extract text and data that we need to make the metadata for ACM's digital library.

    5. Name your .tex and .ps (or .pdf) file using your HT paper number and the lead author's last name (for example: p456-jones.tex & p456-jones.ps).
    6. Be sure to format your document for letterpaper (8.5×11 inches).
    7. You need to submit to Sheridan Printing, your .tex and .ps (or .pdf) files as attachments on or before April 19, 2002
    8. You also need to submit a signed ACM Permission Release Form. (See the Copyright Permission Release section below.)
    9. If you cited external material in your submission then that material should be submitted by FTP too. (See the External Materials section below.)

  3. Details for FrameMaker Users

    1. Please make the .fm file match the specifications outlined in the Word template, available at: http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html.
    2. Name your .fm file using your HT paper number and the lead author's last name (for example: p789-brown.doc). Be sure to format your document for American Letter (8.5×11 inches).
    3. Insert the ACM permission statement:
      1. Download HT02-permission.txt (by right-clicking)
      2. Cut-and-paste it into the bottom left of the first page of your submission
      3. This statement should appear in 8 pt. Times New Roman, justified text, with HT'02 italicized
      4. See this PDF as an example
    4. You need to submit to Sheridan Printing, your .fm and .ps  files as attachments (you may also include a PDF file) on or before April 19, 2002
    5. You must also submit a signed ACM Permission Release Form. (See the Copyright Permission Release section immediately below.)
    6. If you cited external material in your submission then that material should be submitted by FTP too. (See the External Materials section below.)
