Former Project: New Browser Technology

Goal: to help people to read journal articles and textbooks using portable tablet-style computers or other paper-like interfaces.

Methods: to develop (and evaluate) better browsers for reading on the WWW, and to determine how certain features could improve users' experiences:

anchor titles in margins,
annotations included in documents,
reader (not author) links included as annotations,
automated glossary feature.

Outcomes

WWW browser software that allows changing links (including fat links), annotation, including subdocuments (sticky notes) built using the multi-valent document model (see Support of Hypertextual Annotation on the Web by Huan Gao (2004) and Multivalent project at SourceForge).
