Hello world! I'm Travis Gagie, an associate professor in Dalhousie's Faculty of Computer Science and, for now, this is my minimalist webpage. I design compact data structures, usually for bioinformatics, funded by NSERC Discovery Grant RGPIN-07185-2020. My email is sivart.eigag@liamg.moc, with all the words reversed.

I got my BSc in Cognitive Science from Queen's University (Canada), my MSc in Computer Science from the University of Toronto, and my Dr. rer. nat. in Genome Informatics from Bielefeld University (Germany). I've been a research assistant at the Italian National Research Council and the University of Eastern Piedmont (Italy); a post-doc at the University of Chile, Aalto University (Finland) and the University of Helsinki; a visiting researcher at Illumina, the University of A Coruña (Spain) and the Czech Technical University; and an associate professor at Diego Portales University (Chile).

• If you want a reference letter for grad school, you should ask me only if at least one of the follow conditions holds:
  • I know you;
  • I gave you a really good mark;
  • no other professors know you or gave you really good marks either and any letter is better than no letter at all, but then I can't write more than "X took my class and got a mark of Y" (which won't help your chances, which aren't great anyway if no professors know you and you don't have really good marks).
