A little about me:
Hi! I'm Zephyr Xyd Espino
I'm a 4th year Bachelor of Computer Science student at Dalhousie University. Expecting to graduate by May 2023.
My current goal is to finish up my last year of school and pursue a career in technology which helps people in the finance, and or tourism and hospitality industry.
I love people. I like to leave a good and happy impression to everyone I interact with. Small and genuine gestures such as a smile or having a quick conversation with someone goes a long way in making their day a little brighter.
I currently work at the Halifax Convention Centre as a banquet server/bartender where we host exciting and memorable events like these.
I also work at the Muir Hotel, where we bring refined, distinctly Nova Scotian hospitality to the vibrant Halifax Waterfront as a Wellness Attendant. I pursued a job at Muir because I want to play a part in showcasing Nova Scotia's hospitality to tourists, locals and to anyone who wants to visit the beautiful city of Halifax. Why Muir? I chose Muir because I want to be in an environment filled with people who hold themselves to the highest standard in order to bring out the best in whatever they do.
I feel that these jobs give me a great opportunity to learn how to accomodate and give people the best and memorable experience. After all, people forget what you said or did, but they will never forget how you made them feel.
My experience in the computer science field consists of web app development and game development. My first co-op term at Code Ninjas Halifax helped me develop my JavaScript and teaching skills. Code Ninjas is a place where kids can learn to code by building their own video games using Scratch, JavaScript, and the Unity Engine. It also taught me an important lesson to focus on the children's enjoyment rather than just guiding them through the curriculum like a robot so that they don't associate coding as a hassle / homework.
