Course Outline:

A secure payment infrastructure is essential for electronic commerce. In the first part of this module we review cryptographic techniques, security mechanisms, and security infrastructures, which make secure payments possible. In the second half we discuss specific payment systems including electronic versions of traditional payment systems and new forms of payment systems possible in network environments.

Course format:

During the week in February when we meet in Halifax we will review briefly the material and discuss specific issues in more detail. At the end of this week you should hand in a proposal for a term paper (project) that has to be completed in early March before we meet again in Ottawa to discuss these projects and special issues.
