Outline of part 1:

Security is an important aspect of public networks. We discuss cryptographic techniques that are becoming essential in many aspects of network operations, including the secure transmission of messages and authentication of users. We then discuss further security issues in network systems, including user and content provider security, privacy, as well as legislative issues.
