Nieu Bethesda is a town with a population of about 1000 situated in the foothills of the Karoo. The Karoo generally has an extremely arid climate. I visited for a day and able to get pictures of the town and some of the succulents including the remarkably iridescent mesembryanthemums that carpet the surrounding landscape after occasional rain.
