Research Interests My research interests are in the areas of of network security and traffic analysis. More specifically, I am interested in network situational awareness. As part of my Ph.D. dissertation, I developed a model and detector for co-ordinated port scans, which has been validated through an implementation. The true and false positive rates for the detector have been modeled using regression equations. Testing has shown that these models can predict how well the detector will perform given previously unseen operating conditions, including deploying the detector across different networks. More details are available in my dissertation and research statement. My thesis advisor was Jacob Slonim, and my advisory committee members were Gord Agnew, Michael McAllister and John McHugh. My external examiner was Vern Paxson. My other research interests, which can be seen in my publications, include the psychology of security professionals and privacy issues surrounding personal informaiton. |
