Pediatric Pain Knowledge Management:
Linking Tacit Expert Knowledge to Published Literature

Children's pain has become recognized in the last few years as an important and undertreated problem. Although many clinicians and researchers are now working in this area, it is difficult to share information and experiences between experts, clinicians, and patients around the world. The Pediatric-Pain email discussion list has been a useful forum for exchange of ideas. Our research team will use recently developed tools from information systems and natural language processing to link discussion threads from the email list with the  medical and scientific literature. This will help clinicians make informed clinical decisions, guide researchers in developing new treatments, and provide up-to-date information on children's pain for the public.
