Knowledge Management for Scientists

Organizing research related resources (meeting notes, manuscripts, published papers, bibliography information, urls of homepages of researchers, conferences or projects) is a daily task every researcher needs to perform, either manually (e.g. by utilizing directory structure provided by the operating system) or semi-automatically (e.g. by using tools for manipulating bibliography data in BibTeX format). Knowledge is spread around in the file system, email client software, in bookmark folders of the web browser and BibTex database. This usually causes redundency, inconsistency and more importantly inflexibility to present (e.g. on a personal or project website) and share it. In this project we propose to use a semantic model as the organization principle to help researchers organize their research resources and incoporate text analysis and categorization techniques to (semi-)automatically collect and classify research papers according to the semantic model.
